Did You Know?
by Kay Woods
Did you know that you make me smile
when you smile?
I think the grass grows a little faster
when you’re around.
I think you make the grass smile
only we can’t see it.
The caterpillars go to sleep in silver cases
and wake up
and dry their new wings,
and try their new wings,
and wave goodbye to you as if
they were saying hello
for the first time.
Sometimes I feel like a child, and that you are very wise.
Sometimes I feel very wise.
We are wise children.
We make the flowers open up, to let the wind in.
We make the sky clear for stars.
On Saturdays we celebrate
Saturday with the
Saturday people who are always there
When they know you’ll be there.
We are a celebration.
And all people are wise children.
You are magic when you smile.
You are my friend.
And I love you.
Woman goddess, born as beauty, birthed as love,
Divinely exquisite, soft, peaceful as a dove,
All that is sensuous. She is YOU and ME.
Velvety, redolent roses, blossoming myriadly,
Brushing the senses gently, sprinkling passion as dew,
As ladybugs, butterflies, ever aloft and new,
Touching, caressing, filling life so lushly,
Dancing sinuously, her being all aflushly,
As dulcet music lilting, gently soothing the way.
Sunrise, sunset, rich rainbows, bright beams array,
Woman goddess, sweet, delicate, in love by design,
Freely vibrant, ardent threads deeply entwine.
Blissfully rejoicing, fragrant as the morning dew,
Reveling in ecstasy, as I die a bit with you,
Blending our luminously beating hearts as one,
Blissful smiles emerging, together and in fun.
I have a little secret, I keep ever close to me,
As I openly surrender, oh so completely,
To life to love, to my beloved man,
As my being fills with passion, glowing, as full as it can.
Yes I am love, alone unto me, singularly.
Yet with you I feel more, so profoundly, infinitely.
Mending Your Heart
If there is a future there is time for mending
Time to see your troubles coming to an ending.
Life is never hopeless however great your sorrow
If you’re looking forward to a new tomorrow.
If there is time for wishing then there is time for hoping
When through doubt and darkness you are blindly groping.
Though the heart be heavy and hurt you may be feeling
If there is time for praying there is time for healing.
So if through your window there is a new day breaking
Thank God for the promise, though mind and soul be aching,
If with harvest over there is grain enough for gleaning
There is a new tomorrow and life still has meaning.
A Love Poem For Moms To Daughters – Watching
by Kay Woods
Today at the zoo, she fed the goats.
I watched her fly across the monkey bars in the sun.
We ran down a perfect hill together as fast as we could,
So fast the hill took over and ran our legs for us.
We rode them down like wheels.
Tonight I will watch her sleep, heavy and full.
She is only seven.
She reaches for the world while I pray for the power to protect her fro its embrace.
I cannot promise her anything.
Motherhood is a life of heartbreak.
All the goodness I cannot buy her
All the pain I cannot prevent.
What I cannot keep from her, and what I cannot keep for myself
As she grows.
The world is a sieve and a sponge.
Tomorrow I will sit by her, watching her cells divide and multiply.
Now, she smiles. I paint her cheeks with my fingertips.
I will go on watching til I die.
