summer tipsby Rose Cole

Here’s a great bunch of summer tips from the great Rose Cole:

Sunburn Soothers:

Aloe vera has wonderful anti-inflammatory effects, and is a wonderful salve for sunburn pain. Just squeeze the amino-acid-rich gel directly from the whole leaves of the plant, or find a product that contains 95% to 100% pure aloe vera.

Also, to create a skin-cooling soak, mix 1 Cup of powdered milk with 10 drops of lavender essential oil. Shake ingredients in a jar and let sit for a day before pouring into a lukewarm bath.

Summer Allergy Relief:

Look for all-natural antihistamine like quercetin, which is a type of antioxidant found in onions and citrus fruits. It’s also available in suppliment form in health food stores. About 1,000 mg of quercetin taken 3 times per day through the season should help keep the symptoms at bay.

You can also try drinking nettle tea, which is another natural antihistamine. And try cutting back on dairy and gluten products, which may help to reduce congestion, phlegm, and sinus-pressure headaches.

Healthy Hydration:

If you’re on a major hiking trek or biking excursion, don’t skip the healthy salt. Sweating can disturb your sodium-water balance, so replenish by adding Celtic Sea Salt, which has 80 trace minerals in (found at your local health food store), it to your food and snacks. You can even add a few pinches to your water bottle to make an all-natural mineral water.

Natural Bug Bite Balm:

For mosquito bites and bee stings, apply a paste of baking soda and water. This combination neutralizes the bug’s venom.

Also, take 5 pellets of homeopathic apis at 30c strength, 3 times per day until the itching subsides. And adding a drop of lavender essential oil to the bite can also take away the itching and stinging.

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer!
